Dada Masilo's GISELLE is the choreographer's fourth substantial reinterpretation of a great classic.

A young girl dies after having been betrayed by a man. She cannot rest in peace but turns into a wili, a ghost of a girl who still has a desire for dance that she could not satisfy during her short life. Giselle does not forgive. As with previous works, this will be a feminist revision of the classic. Masilo's vision will be of grief, heartbreak, anger and revenge. It will not be a pretty ballet.

Masilo has engaged the services of South African composer Philip Miller, to create a new score, influenced somewhat by the original music by Adolphe Adam. In addition to the western, classical harp, cello and violin instruments, Miller uses African percussion and voice. Masilo in turn generates new movement vocabulary for the libretto of Giselle with a group of dancers.
