I was expecting a little more from a show at the west end. However our children enjoyed it once the gruffalo appeared

We were a parent, Grandparent and 2 children aged 3 and 4. The Story of the Gruffalo is well known, exciting and engaging but this production was the opposite. It took about 20 minutes to establish who was who as the characters were very poorly portrayed - the costumes were amateur, make up did not define any animal characteristics and the songs were so bad they are instantly forgettable. They were purely time filling additions which were not funny or tuneful. The set looked like a school play and the acting was similar. We are regular theatre attendees and hope to encourage the youngest family members to be the same. It can be so much better than this production. I was disappointed in every part of the show. The cast were enthusiastic but the script and production were so appalling it was an embarrassment to watch. I looked around at other audience members - smiles and laughter were few and the young children were perplexed as to what was going on. We have attended children's theatre for over 10 years and it can be fantastic, witty, magical and full of delights. This production did not in any way come near these attributes and I cannot believe it was endorsed by the author. You need a much better script writer and composer who can inspire everyone and present a production that is some value for money. No doubt this review will be ignored but can I suggest that you look at other children's theatre and see that there is better - it maybe outside of London where footfall is not so easy to guarantee and productions have to be good enough to pay it's way. Children deserve better.
