Glittering aristocratic France before the revolution provides the lavish and evocative backdrop in front of which this magnificent and moving story unfolds. A play about sexual manipulation, desire and deceit ending in tragedy, Les Liaisons Dangereuses is a classic of world theatre.

This major new production features a sensational young star-cast that includes Polly Walker (State of Play, Patriot Games), Jared Harris (Igby Goes Down, The Other Boleyn Girl and currently starring opposite Gwyneth Paltrow in the new movie Sylvia), Emilia Fox (Pride and Prejudice, Henry VIII) and Jeremy Edwards (Holby City, Hollyoaks). After worldwide success on the stage the play was also famously turned into a major feature film starring Glenn Close, John Malkovich and Michelle Pfeiffer.

Considered one of the country’s most important playwrights, Christopher Hampton has written a thrilling stage adaptation of the classic novel by Choderlos de Laclos which charts the seduction of both the young, voluptuous and willing Cécile and the demure yet passionate Mme de Tourvel by Le Vicomte de Valmont. Valmont begins the play as an unworthy, cynical pleasure-seeker, proud of his reputation as a seducer. He is encouraged in his enterprises by his former mistress, La Marquise de Merteuil, who would seem to share his cynicism, but who has an ulterior motive.

This fresh production marks the return to the West End of director Tim Fywell who has recently directed the BBC’s successful Cambridge Spies and the critically acclaimed film I Capture the Castle.
